HTC Desire 816G vs Gionee Elife 5.1 #phonefight

One was the thinnest smartphone for a brief period before getting dethroned. The other an improved version of an already value for money handset. One is quite perfect fit for hand. The other is falls into the phablet category. One has that sexy, super slim metal reinforced glass chassis. The other has the famed stereo speakers, which was long due in the smartphone world. So which one of these badboys is better for you?? So let the fight begin!!

Gionee Elife 5.1

HTC Desire 816G

Round 1: Hardware

Gionee Elife 5.1-
The CPU is Mediatek MT6582 system on chip and an Octa-core processor, clocked in at 1.7GHz and is of Cortex-A7 architecture.
Though the SoC is not bleeding edge, but it should be enough for smooth sailage.
The GPU is Mali-450MP4. Though not the most powerful but it should be enough to drive those pixels on the screen.
Don't expect graphic intensive games to run smoothly as small hiccups will be found now and then.

HTC Desire 816G-
The CPU is again from Mediatek MT6582 system on chip, as seen in most of the mid range phones now a days, having Quad-Cores clocked in at 1.3GHz and of the same Cortex-A7 architecture.
Again the CPU is not that powerful. But still powerful enough to run smoothly.
The GPU is Mali-400MP2 which is significantly underpowered than the Gionee one.
If you are an intense gamer and need silky transistions, I would adivse you to avoid this phone.

WINNER: "Gionee Elife 5.1". MOre powerful CPU and the GPU make the Gionee winner here.

Round 2: Display

Gionee Elife 5.1-
Gionee Elife 5.1 has a 4.8 inches, HD SuperAMOLED, HD means that this phone has a resolution of 1280×720 pixels with 16 million colors.
This gives this phone a pixel per inch count of 306, which is just above the RETINA threshold. Although this may be far behind the cutting edge 500+pixel per inches of the 2K displays of current flagship crop, but still the images look sharp due to the diamond pattern of pentile matrix are packed close enough.
As with SuperAMOLED displays, the colors really pop out and blacks are pitch black. Although liking or not may be personal preference.
Sunlight legibility of this display is also good, which maybe of concern for that outdoor person in you.

HTC Desire 816G-
HTC 816G has a big, 5.5 inches, HD SuperLCD 2 display with 16 million colors, again of the same resolution as the Gionee Elife 5.1 I.e 1280×720pixels.
The large display and the same resolution results in a paltry sum of 267 pixels per inch. This falls below the RETINA threshold of 300 PPI, thus the resultant image will not be as sharp as the Gionee Elife 5.1.
Now colors are also calibrated well on the HTC but colors lack the punch of the SuperAMOLED. Brightness is better owing to the SuperLCD 2.
Sunlight legibility is better.

WINNER: "Gionee Elife 5.1". The pitch dark blacks, vivd colors and the overall sharpness of the SuperAMOLED of the Gionee Elife 5.1 the clear winner here.

Round 3: Design

Gionee Elife 5.1-
Gionee Elife 5.1 is 139.8mm tall, 67.4mm wide and 5.2 mm thick. Dimensions suggest this phone is suitable for single handed usage.
It weighs only 97.7 g. Which is very light in the smartphone spectrum.
Gionee Elife 5.1 is one hell of a looker. Be it the sexy slim waistline or the metal housing on all edge. One has to admit it looks better of the two.
But the gorgeous glass back which we have seen previously in Lg Nexus 4,Lg Optimus and the predecessor of this phone itself Gionee Elife 5.5 is still prone to shattering. People with butter fingers beware. Or at least put a case on it.

HTC Desire 816G-
Htc 816G is 156.6mm tall, 78.7mm wide and 8mm thick. Dimensions put it in the phablet category.
HTC 816G weighs 158gm. Putting it on the heavier side of the smartphone spectrum.
This phone is based on the famous design on HTC's flagships one. with the front facing dual-stereo speakers which I'll talk about later.
Though the material used are not as premium. Yup no aluminum here. Only plastic.

WINNER: "Gionee Elife 5.1". The use of premium materials, the thinness and the overall look of Gionee is far for superior than its compatriot here. thus consolidationg a convincing victory over the HTC.

Round 4: Battery

Gionee Elife 5.1-
Gionee Elife 5.1 has a Lithium-Ion 2050mAh battery which is non-removable.
The  battery is small for a phone of this size. Its is one of the things that have been compromised to keep the phone this thin.

HTC Desire 816G-
HTC 816G has a Lithium-polymer battery which is rated at 2600mAh.
Battery life of HTC 816G is considerably batter when compared to Gionee's measly 2050mAh battery.
This is one of the main positive feature of this phone.

WINNER: "HTC Desire 816G". Although Gionee has a more efficient display, but the sheer difference in ratings of thr battery and the different types of tech implies superiority of thr HTC over Gionee in this segment.

Round 5: Camera

Gionee Elife 5.1-
Gionee Elife5.1 has an 8 megapixel rear or main camera with autofocus and LED flash.
Features included are Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection,HDR and panorama.
Video is shot at 1080p@30 fps.
Secondary or the front facing camera is of 5 megapixels and is good for taking selfies.

HTC Desire 816G-
HTC 816G has a 13 megapixel rear facing camera with autofocus and a LED flash.
Features included are Geo-tagging, touch focus, HDR and simultaneous image and video recording.
Videos can be shot at the maximum resolution of 1080p@30 fps and 720p@60fps.
Secondary camera is again of 5 megapixel, which is quite good at taking high quality selfies and can also shoot videos at 1080p.
WINNER: "HTC Desire 816G". HTC Desire wins this round due to better camera quality.

Round 6: Memory

Gionee Elife 5.1-
GIonee Elife 5.1 has an onboard memory of 16gb, which has become a standard now a days.
It has no memory card slot which may be yet aonther sacrifices made to make the phone this thin.
Its has a RAM of 1gb. which could have been upper to a 2gb which is becoming a standards which the price point in view.

HTC Desire 816G-
HTC Desire 816G has an interanal memory of only 8gb, which is substandard but the current market scenario.
But the plus point here is HTC has included a microSD card slot with expansion supported upto32gb. So I advise you to invest in a good memory card if you are planning to use thisphone for a lot of media consumption and installing apps.
RAM here is same as Gionee i.e 1gb. Again RAM will fill up very easily if the background apps are not kept in check, leading to stutters and lags.

WINNER: "HTC Desire 816G".Although internal memory is less than that og Gionee, but the fact that memory can be expanded makes HTC Desire 816G the winner here.yes, just becaiuse of that memory card slot.

Round 7: Communications and Sounds

Gionee Elife 5.1-
WLAN- WI-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, hotspot
Bluetooth- v4.0
GPS- Yes,with A-GPS
Radio- FM radio
USB- microUSB v2.0, USB Host

Radio: FM Radio
USB: v2.0, USB host
Loudspeakers- Dual Front stereo speakers "BOOMSOUND"
SIMS-Dual SIMS(Nano SIM,dual standby)

WINNER: "HTC Desire 816G'. Both of them have basically almost the same specs in this department, butHTC has slight edge over Gionee due to better sound output and also being able to host usb inspite of having memory card expansion slot.

Round 8: Availability and Price

WINNER: "Draw" because bth are value for money.

FINAL VERDICT: HTC Desire816G comes out the winner due to it winning 4 rounds as compared to three rounds won by Gionee Elife 5.1.

But that doesn't mean Gionee Elife 5.1 is not recommended. It is tremedous value for money.
So let me break it down for you. If you are looking for a phone thats worth showing off to your friends, has a great screen and you dont have any stigma of being attached to a chinese brand(yes, gionee is a chinese phone manufacturer) then deifinitely go for Gionee Elife .1.
